Gelamal Bricks Field

Down here on Hamirpur Road, near the Galla Mandi in Naubasta, you'll find our brick field. We spend most of our days out in the open at Raipur. It's dusty and the sun is usually hot, but that's just part of making bricks. We’ve been operating in this area for a long time. People around Naubasta know where we are because we’re so close to the market. The trucks come in and out all day long to pick up loads for local building projects. We don't have a big corporate setup. It’s just us, the soil, and the kilns. Sometimes the weather makes things difficult, especially when it rains and we have to cover everything up quickly. We just try to keep a steady supply going for whoever needs it. You can see the smoke from the chimneys from a distance when we're firing a batch. It’s honest work and we've gotten used to the rhythm of it. The ground here is good for what we do. We don’t spend much time in an office; we're usually out on the field checking the stacks. If you pass by Galla Mandi, you're basically right there. It’s a simple operation but we keep busy throughout the season. We have a small shed for lunch, but mostly we are just moving around the yard. It takes a lot of patience to get the firing right and wait for the cooling process to finish.
