Our office is right near Anjarakandi Road, which is basically next to the Kannur International Airport. You can always hear the planes taking off and landing while we’re sitting at our desks. It’s a very busy spot to be in. We’ve been involved with the construction work around here for a long time. It isn't the cleanest job because there is always dust and mud everywhere you look. Most of the time, we’re out on the field wearing our boots and helmets. The office itself is just a place for us to keep our maps and tools. We don’t have any expensive furniture or art on the walls. It’s mostly just stacks of paper and empty tea cups. The sun gets incredibly hot in Kannur, especially in the middle of the day. We usually take a break then and find some shade near the trucks. We’ve seen this whole area change since the airport started. It used to be much quieter. Now, there are people coming and going at all hours. We don't really do ads or try to sound important. We’re just a group of workers trying to finish the tasks we’re given. Some days the machines break and we have a lot of stress. Other days things go smooth. That is just how construction is. We show up every morning and we do what we can before the sun goes down.
