Nallur Kalam in Moolathara is where we spend most of our time. We go by Siva Sakthi Coconut Producer Company Limited, and our lives revolve around the coconut trees in Meenakshi Puram. It is a sunny, dry area, and the work is mostly outdoors and very physical. We have piles of coconuts all over the place, waiting to be processed or moved out. The ground is usually covered in husks and the sun can be quite brutal in the middle of the day. We aren't a corporate office with air conditioning; we are a group of producers working right on the land. Meenakshi Puram has a certain rhythm to it, mostly dictated by the harvest cycles. We talk to the climbers and the drivers all day long. Sometimes things break down or the weather doesn't cooperate, and we just have to figure it out as we go. There’s no handbook for everything that happens at Nallur Kalam. We just use our experience and get the work done. It is a lot of sweat and effort, but it is what we know. We don't spend money on fancy brochures or big signs. We just want to make sure the coconuts are handled well and the farmers get what they deserve. It’s a straightforward life here, and we are just trying to keep the business healthy for the long run. There is always more work to do tomorrow, so we just finish up and head home to rest before the sun comes up again.
