Out here in Majheen, life moves a bit slower than in the bigger towns of Kangra. Wild Leaf Hotels is our small project in this part of Himachal. We are located in the Khundian tehsil, which is a bit of a drive from the main highway. It’s a quiet village where everyone knows everyone else. We wanted to have a place where people could see this side of the hills, away from the tourists in Dharamshala. It’s mostly just trees and fields around us. Managing a resort in a VPO like Majheen has its challenges, like when the roads get muddy during the monsoon or when deliveries take a few extra days to arrive. We do most of the work ourselves, from tending the grounds to making sure the rooms are aired out. It’s a simple life. We don’t have a big marketing department or fancy brochures. If someone finds us, it’s usually because they were looking for some peace and quiet. We spend our days making sure the place is running okay. Sometimes we sit out and watch the hills when the work is done. It’s a lot of physical labor, keeping the wild plants from taking over the paths. We’re just local people trying to make a go of this business. It’s honest work and we enjoy being out here in the fresh air, even if it’s a lot of effort to keep everything maintained properly. It's not perfect but it's ours.
