Neel Kanon Agro Farmer Producer Company is a small group of us here in Kaki Charili. We are located at Debananda Bharali’s place in the 2 No. area of the village. Most of us grew up around Rampur and have been working the soil since we were kids. It’s mostly small plots of land where we grow rice and some mustard. We didn’t really have a choice but to get together. Prices for seeds kept going up and the traders weren't giving us a fair deal. Now we try to buy things in bulk so it’s a bit cheaper for everyone. Our office isn't anything special. It’s just a room with some old wooden chairs and a lot of paperwork piled up on a desk. Usually, there is someone there drinking tea and talking about the weather. We aren't experts with degrees. We just know how the rain behaves in this part of the district. Some days the work is exhausting and the sun is too hot, but this is what we do. We don’t have fancy machines for everything. A lot of it is still done by hand or with old tools that have seen better days. We are just trying to make a living and keep our families fed. If you come by Rampur, you’ll see the fields and maybe one of us out there working. It’s not a fast life, but it’s ours. We hope to get through the year without too much trouble from the floods.
