Start at No.1/52, South Street. We are the women of Kural Village. Pakkampadi Post is our local area. It is a quiet place most of the time. We got together as Chinnasalem Women Farmer Producer Company Limited because we realized we could do more together than by ourselves. Our office is just a small room where we keep our records and meet up after working in the fields. We grow all kinds of things depending on the rain. Some days it is very hot and we just sit in the shade of the porch at No.1/52 and talk about the price of seeds. We are not big business people. Most of us have been farming since we were young girls. We know the soil here well. There are many challenges, like when the pests come or the rain doesn't show up when it should. We try to help each other out with these problems. It is not a fancy life. We have to carry heavy bags and deal with lots of mud. But it is our life. We want to make sure our children have a better time of it. We are just trying to get a fair price for what we grow. People come and go from our South Street spot all day long. It's a bit of a mess sometimes with all the paperwork and muddy boots, but we manage to keep things going.
