Late D.M. Barad High School

Our school is located right near the Post Office in Ukadiya, which is part of the Veraval Tehsil. It’s a bit of a trek for some of the kids who come in from the smaller villages nearby. We’ve named the place after Late D.M. Barad, and we try to keep things going by just being a solid, dependable high school for the people who live out here. The building is simple, mostly just stone and concrete, but it stays reasonably cool even when the sun is hitting it hard in the summer. We don't have much in the way of fancy equipment or computers. Most of our teaching is done the old-fashioned way with books and lots of talking. We have a playground that’s mostly just dirt and some weeds, but the kids don’t seem to mind much when they’re running around during their break. Life here in the Tehsil is a bit slower than what you find in the big cities, and our school definitely reflects that pace. We deal with the seasons as they come, like the dust in the dry months and the thick mud when the rains start. The office is small and it’s usually where we sit to drink our tea and plan out the lessons for the coming week. We know the parents well, as many of them were students here themselves twenty years ago. It’s a real community school. We just try to give the kids a fair start.
