Ashok Bricks Industries (P) Ltd. is located out in the NTPC area of Belpahar. Being near the railway station means there is always noise from the trains passing by, but it actually helps with getting things moved around when we need to. We have the kilns set up and the workers stay very busy with the clay and the firing process every day. It is hot work, especially in the summer months when the sun is beating down on the open ground without any breeze. We have been in this exact spot for quite some time now. Most of the people working here live close by in the post-Belpahar area. We don't spend much time on fancy talk or meetings. Usually, we are just checking the quality of the bricks coming out of the fire or making sure the stacks are straight so they don't fall over in the wind. The ground is often covered in red dust, and your shoes will get dirty if you walk around the yard for more than a few minutes. It is a practical business. We deal with builders and people just looking to fix up their own small places. Sometimes the machines act up and we have to spend half the day fixing a belt or cleaning out a jam. That is just part of the job. We keep a small office near the entrance where we track the daily loads. It is a bit cramped but it works for us.
