Our place is at Plot No-E-166-169 in Phase-2 of the Gidc. Ashish Brass Components Pvt. Ltd. sounds like a big name, but we’re really just a group of people working the machines every day. The smell of hot metal is the first thing you notice when you walk in. We make lots of little brass parts, thousands of them sometimes. They all look the same after a while, but you have to keep an eye on the quality. If a machine goes out of alignment, it ruins the whole batch. We spend a lot of time cleaning up the brass shavings that end up everywhere. The floor is always covered in them by noon. We don’t have a fancy showroom. Most people who come here are just delivery drivers or other business owners from the estate. It’s a practical environment. The fans on the ceiling try their best to keep the heat down, but it’s still a warm place to work. We’ve been through some tough times when orders were slow, but we managed to stay open. It is a matter of just showing up and doing the work. We talk about cricket or family during the tea breaks. It is a regular job for us. We don’t try to be something we aren’t. We just focus on the brass and making sure the crates are packed by Friday so they can be picked up.
