Skuast-Jammu

Our office is located in Nai Basti, right there in the Satwari area of Jammu. It’s an old building, F-631, and it’s pretty easy to find if you know the neighborhood. We deal with agricultural stuff, mostly helping with the research and the administrative side of the university’s work here. Jammu gets really hot in the summer, and the fans in the office barely keep us cool, but we manage. Most of our day is spent handling files, talking to farmers who come in with questions, or organizing data for the main campus. It’s not very high-tech here. We have a few old desks and some computers that take a long time to start up. The people who work here have been around for a long time, so we all know each other well. Sometimes the traffic from the main road makes it hard to hear when we are on the phone, but that’s just how it is in this part of town. We don't have any fancy brochures or a PR department. We just do the work that needs doing. In the evenings, we wrap things up and try to beat the traffic back home. It feels like a small community here in Nai Basti. We share snacks in the afternoon and complain about the weather while we sort through piles of paperwork. It’s a steady kind of life, and we are quite used to the routine by now in Satwari.
