Bombay College

We are up here in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir. The college is located right in the city, with the pin code 180001. Living and working here means dealing with the changing seasons, especially the cold winters when we all have to bundle up. The building is an older one, with thick walls that have seen many years. We do not have the kind of setup you see in big city magazines. It is more of a practical place. The rooms are large and a bit drafty sometimes. We spend a lot of our time just managing the schedule and making sure the students have a place to sit and read. Outside, the streets of Srinagar are always full of life, though things can get quiet depending on the time of year. We do not do a lot of shouting about what we do. People in the area know the college and where it is. It is a landmark for some and just a workplace for us. There is a bit of a garden area, but it is mostly just grass and a few hardy plants that survive the snow. We are not trying to be anything other than a local college. We keep the gates open during the day and close them up tight at night. It is a simple routine that we have followed for a long time now. No fancy words are needed to describe a place that just exists to do its job.
