We operate out of Ward No. 6 Dhar, in the Dugnoo area of Billawar. It’s a bit of a climb to get up here sometimes, but this is where we live and work. Being in Kathua, we are used to the hills and the specific challenges that come with farming in this kind of terrain. Baggan Billawar Farmer Producer Company Limited is really just a group of us from the nearby villages who wanted to have a common name for our work. We don't have much in the way of a fancy setup. It’s mostly just us meeting up and talking about what the fields need or how we’re going to get our stuff down to the main roads. You won't find any polished business talk here. We are just regular people who know a lot about seeds and soil. The weather up in Billawar can be unpredictable, so we spend a lot of time worrying about that. Some days are good and some are just plain hard, but that’s just how it goes when you’re dealing with nature. We try to help each other out with equipment or just advice when someone’s crop isn't doing so well. It’s a small community and everyone knows everyone else’s business anyway. We’re just trying to keep the farming tradition going while making sure we don't get left behind by the bigger markets down in the valleys. It is a slow process but we are sticking with it.
