Down here in Malda, things move at a different pace than the big cities. We are located in Sankopara, which is in the Rathbari area. Being part of the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation means we have a lot of responsibility, but our local office is pretty grounded. We are right in the heart of West Bengal, near the post office and the main district hub. Our daily life involves a lot of paperwork and site visits. The river systems around here are what we focus on, trying to figure out how to keep the power flowing for the country. It is a government setup, so everything has a specific way of being done. The office building is functional and filled with files and maps of the local geography. We drink a lot of local tea and discuss the latest updates from the head office in Delhi. The humidity in Malda can be quite something during the monsoon, and we have to keep an eye on the water levels constantly. We are just a group of people working for the government, trying to do our part for the energy sector. We don’t have any flashy slogans. Most of us have lived in this district for years or moved here for the job, so we know the local roads and the people quite well. It is a steady life, focused on the technical side of things and making sure the projects stay on track.
