Our group is based in Talegaon, over in the Jalna area. We use the space at Kailas Manikrao Gavhad’s place to keep our records and meet up. The name we picked is Gavhad Agro Farmers Producer Companylimited, which sounds a bit formal, but we are just the same people who have been farming these hills for years. Jalna can be a dry place, and we spend a lot of our time thinking about how to get the most out of our patches of dirt. It isn’t always pretty work. There are plenty of days where things go wrong, like a pump breaking or the pests getting into the crops, but we just deal with it. We don't have a front desk or a secretary. Usually, someone just yells from the gate or walks into the yard when they need to talk. We got together because we saw that the bigger buyers were getting the better end of the deal, and we wanted to change that for our small village. We spend a lot of time talking about fertilizers and which tractor parts are actually worth the money. It’s just the daily life of people who live by the seasons. We aren't trying to change the world, just trying to make sure the farmers in Talegaon get a fair shake and that the crops don't go to waste. It takes a lot of patience to live this way, but we don't know any other path.
