Csc Mhewa Farmer Producer Company Limited

We are set up over at Satendra Kumar Singh’s place in the village of Babai, out in Jalaun. Csc Mhewa Farmer Producer Company Limited is a local group of farmers from this part of Uttar Pradesh. It’s a bit of a trek to get out here if you aren't from the area, but we like the peace. We spend our days looking at the crops and talking about what the market is doing. The company is basically just a way for us to stick together. In a small village like Babai, everyone knows what everyone else is doing anyway. We don't have a big staff or a fancy office setup. It is usually just a few of us sitting around, checking over the books or planning the next season. The weather out here in the east can be unpredictable, so we have to stay on our toes. Sometimes the heat is enough to make you want to quit, but you just keep going. We don't use any of those big corporate phrases because they don't mean much to us. We just care about whether the harvest is good and if we can get a fair price for it. Working the land is what we know, so we are just trying to do it a bit better by working together. It’s not a glamorous life, but it is ours. We are just regular people trying to make things work one day at a time.
