Vardhman Rice Mill

Vardhman Rice Mill is found in Village Malkana, right near the Post Office in Rama Mandi. Being close to the post office is handy for the mail, but most of our business happens right at the gate. The mill is a busy spot in the village. We have several large silos and a lot of open space for the trucks to turn around. It can get pretty cramped when three or four big lorries show up at the same time. The ground is always covered in a bit of chaff, and it blows around whenever the wind picks up. Inside the mill, the light comes in through high windows and hits the dust in the air. We spend our days monitoring the moisture in the grain and making sure the milling stones are set just right. It is a mechanical process that requires a lot of attention. We don't have a marketing team or anyone to write fancy brochures. It is just us, the workers, and the owners. We know most of the people who come through the gates by name. Sometimes we sit on the grain bags and talk about the weather or the crop prices. The village life is quiet, but the mill is always humming. It is a good way to make a living, even if it means coming home with dusty hair and sore shoulders every single night.
