Channa Dhol Master

You can find my shop at number 29 in Ashok Nagar which is part of Jalandhar City. We are right by the Chandya Wala Peer which is a place everyone around here knows. I have been playing the dhol for most of my life and this shop is where I keep the drums and meet people who want some music for their weddings. Jalandhar is a place where people really love their celebrations and the dhol is a big part of that. The shop isn't anything special to look at. It has some benches and the walls are lined with different sizes of dhols. I spend a lot of time tightening the skins on the drums or fixing the straps. It’s a very hands-on job and my palms are usually calloused from the sticks. We don't have a big marketing plan or a fancy office. If you want a dhol player you just come down to Ashok Nagar and we talk. I have taught a few younger guys how to play too so we can go out as a group when needed. It is a loud life and my ears probably don't hear as well as they used to but it makes me happy to see people dancing. We just do our work and go home. There is no corporate talk here. Just the sound of the wood and the skin and the rhythm of the city. We have been here for years.
