The mill is located in Chak Maher, which is out by Tarn Taran. You can usually hear the machines running before you see the building. It’s a noisy place with the grinders going all day. There is always a fine dust of flour in the air, so everything looks a bit white. We get a lot of local farmers bringing in their grain. They pull up with their carts or tractors and we get to work. It’s a lot of lifting heavy sacks, so you stay fit doing this. We have been here in this spot for a long time. The building is old but the stones still grind well. Sometimes the power goes out and everything goes quiet, which feels strange. We just sit outside and wait for it to come back on. People from the village come by with small bags too, just enough for their own kitchen. We chat about the weather and the crops while the grain is being processed. It’s a simple life. We don't have a big staff, just family and a couple of guys from down the road. The smell of fresh flour is something you never really get tired of. It's a messy job, but someone has to turn the wheat into something people can eat. We keep the machines greased and the floors as clean as you can in a place like this. It’s a lot of work but it’s what we do.
