Jogindra Rice & General Mills

Jogindra Rice & General Mills has been part of Nawanshahr for quite some time. We are situated in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, and anyone around here can tell you that the milling season is our busiest time. The machines are old but they still run well if you take care of them, which we do. There is always a lot of dust in the air when the paddy comes in, so we wear scarves over our faces. It is hard work, especially when the sun is beating down on the roof of the mill. We do not just do rice; we handle some other general milling too depending on what the local growers need. The yard gets filled up with bags pretty quickly during peak times. You have to be careful where you step. I usually start the day early, before the sun is even fully up, to get the motors running. We are a local team, mostly guys from the surrounding villages who know their way around a grain sack. We do not have a fancy website or a marketing department. We just have our names and this spot in Nawanshahr. It is a noisy place, but it is honest work that keeps the community fed. When the season ends, we spend our time fixing the parts and cleaning everything out for the next round. It is a cycle we have gotten used to over the years.
