Guru Teg Bahadur Rice Mills

Our rice mill is tucked away in Village Nangal, near Adampur. It is a bit of a drive to get here but the farmers don't mind. We have a lot of space around the mill which is good for when the trucks arrive during the peak season. You can see big piles of paddy waiting to be processed. The smell of raw rice is everywhere here. It is a heavy, earthy scent that fills the whole building. We have several machines that do different parts of the work, like cleaning and then hulling the husk off. It is a dusty environment so we keep the doors wide open to let the air move through. Sometimes a stray dog will wander in to sleep in the cool shade of the warehouse. We don't have a corporate office or anything like that. Just a small room with a wooden bench where we keep the ledgers. The village life is slow but the mill stays busy most of the time. We have to watch the weather closely because if it rains, we can't leave the grain outside. Everyone has to jump in and move things under the roof quickly. It is hard physical work and our hands are always rough from handling the sacks. We have been doing this for a long time and the people in Nangal and Salala know us well. We just do our work and go home when the sun sets.
