Chambamal Harjeet Singh Rice Mills

If you head over to Plot No-202 in Barahipura, you will find us. Chambamal Harjeet Singh Rice Mills is situated right near the Neelkanth Temple, so we hear the bells and the prayers every day while we work. It is a nice landmark to have because everyone knows where the temple is. The mill itself is just a big shed mostly, filled with the smell of raw grain and old oil. We have been working this plot for a while now. The space is a bit tight when we have a big delivery, but we make it work by stacking the bags high. Harjeet spends most of his time checking the quality of what comes in from the fields. If the moisture is too high, we have to spread it out, and that takes up even more room. Sometimes the neighbors complain about the noise, but most people in Barahipura are used to it. We keep the machines running from dawn until the sun goes down. My hands are always rough from handling the sacks and the equipment. We don't have a website or any of that stuff. If someone needs us, they just walk through the gate and find us. It’s a lot of manual labor, cleaning out the stones and making sure the husks are separated properly. The temple being right there gives a bit of peace to a very busy and loud workday.
