Vishnu Devi Traders is located at number 12 in the Jhulelal Cloth Market, which is part of the larger Bapu Bazar area. If you’ve spent any time in Bapu Bazar, you know it’s a place that never really sleeps. Our shop is right in the thick of it. The Jhulelal market is usually crowded with people looking for different types of fabrics and goods. We open up our spot at number 12 and start the day by moving some of the heavier items around to create a bit of space to walk. The shop isn't very wide, so we have to be smart about how we stack things. We have an old desk where we keep our accounts, and it’s covered in slips of paper and pens. The overhead lights are a bit bright, but they help us see what we are doing when the sun starts to go down. Bapu Bazar has a specific energy, and we are right in the middle of all that shouting and haggling. We don't bother with anything fancy like air conditioning; we just keep the door open and let the breeze, and the dust, come in. It’s a lot of work keeping everything organized, and my back usually aches by the end of the shift. We just focus on getting through the day and making sure we haven't missed anything important. It is a very standard way of doing business in a very busy market.
