Dhakad Garments

Our workshop is at H-685 in the Sitapura Industrial Area. It’s a place where we spend most of our waking hours during the week. Dhakad Garments isn't a high-fashion boutique with mirrors; it's a workspace full of sewing machines, cutting tables, and stacks of cloth. The floors are often covered in loose threads and small fabric scraps. We’ve been in this particular building for a while, and it has a bit of character, though not the fancy kind. The windows are high up on the walls, so we don't see much of the outside world while we are working. Sitapura is a huge area, and H-685 is just one of many units doing this kind of thing. We have a small group of people here who are really good with their hands and needles. Sometimes the power flickers, and we all have to wait a minute for the generators to kick in so we can finish the seams. We don't have any polished speeches or mission statements. We just take the fabric and turn it into garments day after day. It’s repetitive work, but we talk and listen to the radio while we do it to keep our spirits up. Lunch is usually spent sitting on the steps outside or at our desks. It’s a plain, honest business. We know the other garment guys on this block and we all just try to stay busy.
