Alka Garments

Alka Garments is right on New Sanganer Road in Mansarovar, directly in front of Rajat Path. It is a busy location with a lot of people passing by on their way to other parts of Mansarovar. Inside, the sound of sewing machines is pretty much constant from morning until evening. We have rolls of fabric in all kinds of colors stacked up on the shelves. Sometimes the floor is covered in small pieces of thread and cloth that fell during the cutting process. We spend our days sitting at the machines or standing at the big cutting tables. It is a lot of repetitive work, but we are used to the rhythm of it. Being across from Rajat Path means we get a lot of foot traffic, and people often poke their heads in to see what we are making. We don't have a fancy display window; you just see us working if the door is open. The light on New Sanganer Road is quite bright in the mornings, which helps us see the stitching better. We have a few fans going to keep the air moving, but it still gets quite warm with all the machines running at once. We just focus on getting the garments finished correctly. Alka Garments is a practical shop where the focus is on the needle and thread and the work right in front of us. We try to keep things organized but fabric has a way of getting everywhere by the end of the week.
