Working out of Plot No G1/791 in the Riico Industrial Area means things are always pretty gritty. We are Shankar Steel Suppliers, and our life revolves around metal and heavy machinery. We are right by the Laxmi Dharam Kanta, so we hear the big trucks idling all day long as they wait to get weighed. It is a very industrial atmosphere with plenty of dust and the sound of iron hitting iron. Our office is just a tiny room with a metal roof that gets very loud when it rains. We don't have fancy desks or soft chairs. It’s mostly just a place to store the ledgers and escape the sun for a few minutes. We spend most of the day out on the plot, moving steel and checking the shipments. The work is physically demanding and your hands are always dirty. We don't wear anything nice to work because it would be ruined in an hour. Most of the people we deal with are truck drivers and site workers. We have been here since this part of the industrial area was mostly empty. Now it’s full of buildings and smoke. It’s not a place for everyone, but it’s where we’ve built our lives. We don't talk much about our history or anything. We just focus on getting the steel loaded and sent out to where it needs to go.
