Sahu Readymade & General Store

Sahu Readymade & General Store is our family business in the Kotkhawada Main Market. We’re located out on Tonk Road in Jaipur. It’s a bit of a mix here because we sell clothes like shirts and trousers alongside general household items. It makes the shop look a bit crowded, but people seem to like having everything in one place. We have a few mirrors on the walls so people can see how the clothes look. The lighting isn't the best, but we do our best with what we have. Running a shop in this part of Jaipur means you have to be ready for the heat. We have a big cooler that we fill with water every morning. We don't have a fancy website or any social media. If people want to buy something, they just come in and haggle a bit, which is the way things are done here. We get our ready-made clothes from suppliers in the city every month. It’s always a bit of a gamble what will sell. The general store side of things is more steady, with people always needing salt, oil, or matches. We just keep going day by day, making sure the shop is open and the customers are treated like neighbors. It’s just us doing our thing in the market. The hangers clatter when people look through the shirts and the air is often thick with the smell of the market outside. It's a lot of work but we like being our own bosses here.
