The institute is over in Malviya Nagar, specifically at C 211. It’s usually pretty loud here, which I guess you’d expect from a music place. We have rooms where people practice their instruments. You can hear a bit of everything, from someone struggling with a guitar chord to a kid hitting the drums. It’s a bit of a maze inside with all the equipment and chairs scattered around. We spend a lot of time tuning things and making sure the keyboards are plugged in. Most of the people who come here are from the neighborhood. They stop by after work or school. The walls have some old posters on them, and there’s always a few instrument cases lying in the hallway. We don’t have a big fancy staff, just a few of us who know our way around a song. It gets busy in the evenings when everyone has free time. Sometimes the instruments need repairs, and we’re sitting there with screwdrivers trying to fix a loose string or a key that sticks. It’s a lot of work keeping everything in order, but it feels right. People just want to learn something new or get better at what they already know. We give them a place to do that without making it a big deal. The coffee machine in the corner is older than some of the students, but it still makes a decent cup of chai.
