We’ve been set up in Raja Park for quite a few years now, doing business as Prachi Gems. Raja Park is a lively area, and there is always something going on just outside our door. Our shop is relatively small, but we pack a lot into the space we have. It’s mostly counters and display cases, and we spend a lot of our time cleaning the glass because people are always leaning on it. Dealing with gems is a quiet kind of work most of the time. We sit behind the counter, sorting through packets or talking to the folks who wander in from the street. We don’t have a big staff, just a couple of us who know the stones and the regulars who live around the park. The shop can get a bit cluttered with ledgers and little boxes that we haven't put away yet. It’s a very lived-in space. We don't use any fancy lighting to make things look better than they are; what you see is what you get. Sometimes we close up a bit early if the weather is bad or if there’s a local festival happening nearby. It’s just how we do things here. We like being part of the Raja Park community and seeing the same faces year after year. It’s a simple way to make a living, and we don’t feel the need to change much of anything.
