Our place is at A-57 in C Scheme, right on Khajanewalon Ka Rasta. This street is famous for people who work with stone, and Omprakash Satyaprakash Moortiwala is just one of the old shops here. If you walk inside, the first thing you notice is the white dust that covers everything. It’s from carving the marble and stone statues. We have figures in various stages of being finished, some just rough blocks and others nearly done. The sound of hammers and chisels is constant here. It’s a craft that’s been passed down, so we don't really think about it in a modern business way. We just sit on the floor or low stools and work on the stone. Our clothes are always white by the end of the day. Khajanewalon Ka Rasta is a narrow lane, so it’s always crowded with blocks of stone and people moving around. It gets very hot in the summer, and the stone feels warm to the touch. We don't have a website or a marketing team; we just have our tools and the stone. People know where to find us because we’ve been on this corner for as long as anyone can remember. It’s honest work that takes a lot of patience and steady hands. We usually stop for a long break in the afternoon when the sun is too much. After that, we go back to chipping away until it gets dark.
