Mohan Electricals & Decorators

Down on Dayanand Marg in Janta Colony, near Tulsidas Ji Ki Bagichi, is where we keep our shop. Mohan Electricals & Decorators is a mix of two things. On one side, we have all the electrical bits like switches, wires, light bulbs, and fuses. On the other side, we have the stuff we use for decorating, like long strings of fairy lights and some cloth hangings. It gets very crowded in here during the wedding season or when Diwali is coming up. We spend a lot of time untangling wires that have gotten knotted up in the bins. The shop smells a bit like copper and plastic. Sometimes people come in with a broken iron or a toaster, and we have to tell them we will look at it when we have a spare moment. We do not have a big fancy showroom, just a lot of shelves and some boxes stacked on the floor. When we go out for a decoration job, the shop feels a bit empty. We load the ladder and the bundles of lights onto the rickshaw and head out to whichever house or hall needs us. It is hard work climbing up and down, and sometimes the bulbs break in transit. We try to keep everything organized, but with so many small screws and clips, something always ends up where it should not be. It is just how we operate, doing the repairs and the lighting for the neighborhood.
