Aravali Gems

Our shop is tucked away in Partaniyo Ka Rasta which is one of the many busy lanes in Johari Bazar. We are at Shop No. 36 in Dadda House. If you have ever been to Jaipur you know how the old city can be a bit of a maze. The lane is quite narrow and there are always people moving gems and jewelry back and forth. Inside our shop we have our work benches and some stools for when people come to talk. It is a very old building and the walls are thick. We spend most of the day sorting through stones and looking at what came in from the cutters. It’s a lot of manual work and your hands usually end up a bit dirty by the end of the shift. The light in the lane isn't great so we rely on our indoor lights to see the color of the gems properly. There is a lot of history in this street and you can feel it when you walk through the doors. We aren't doing anything revolutionary here. It is just the same gem work that has been done in this bazar for a long time. We know the other sellers on the rasta and we usually know who is looking for what. It is a tight-knit community and we just do our part in it every day.
