J P Metals is situated right at the beginning of the industrial zone on Road No 1, at 1-B. Being near the entrance of VKIA means we see a lot of the traffic coming and going all day long. The building is a simple structure that has seen a lot of use over the years. We deal with all sorts of metal pieces here, and you can usually hear the sound of sorting and clanging from the street. It is a very hands-on type of business. I usually start the day by checking what came in overnight and making sure the floor is clear enough for the guys to work. Our address at 1-B is easy to find, which helps when new drivers are trying to drop off loads. Inside, it is just rows of material and a few workbenches that have been beaten up by years of use. We do not use any fancy software for our inventory; it is mostly done with pens and paper in the ledger books kept on the high desk. The ventilation is not the best, so we leave the big rolling shutters open most of the time to let the breeze in. It is a straightforward operation where we show up, do the sorting and the cutting, and go home when the sun goes down. We have been part of this street for a long time and know all the neighbors.
