Setting up near the 200 Feet Bypass seemed like a smart move because the cars can just get on the highway and go. We spend a lot of our time on the phone or looking at maps of the state. It isn't a glamorous job like people think. There is a lot of waiting for drivers to show up and making sure the hotels actually have the rooms ready. Our office in Abhishek Vihar is pretty small and we usually have a few spare tires or oil cans sitting in the corner. We know the roads to Jaisalmer and Udaipur like the back of our hands. We tell people where the good dhabas are and which parts of the road are bumpy right now. Sometimes the internet is slow and we have to call the bus stations directly to check on timings. It gets very hot in the summer here so we keep the water cooler full. People come in looking for a trip and we just tell them the truth about how long the drive takes. No point saying it’s a short hop when it’s six hours in a jeep. We have a couple of old desks and a calendar with pictures of forts that’s a few years old. We don’t do big parties or anything. We just make sure the vehicles are running and the paperwork is sorted so nobody gets stuck in the middle of nowhere.
