Gulab Bartan Bhandar

Our shop, Gulab Bartan Bhandar, is at 286 Ghoda Nikas Road in the Ramganj Bazar area. This is a place where you hear the clinking of metal all day long. We sell all kinds of utensils, from small spoons to large cooking pots used for weddings. The shop is full of stainless steel, brass, and copper. It’s very shiny when the sun hits the entrance. We have stacks of plates reaching up to the ceiling. You have to be careful when you walk through the aisles so you don't knock anything over. Most of our days are spent showing different sizes of pans to customers who are setting up new kitchens. We have been in this location for many years. The building is old and the floors are uneven, but it works for us. Ramganj is a crowded part of town, so there are always rickshaws and bikes outside. It’s never quiet. We have a small desk where we keep the bills and a few pens. We don't use much technology here. It’s all about looking at the metal and knowing the weight. People come to us because they know we have been here forever. We just keep doing what we do, selling pots and pans to the local families. It’s a steady life and we know the business well. We close up when the sun goes down and the market slows.
