A-312 in Taranagar is where we spend most of our daylight hours. Jhotwara is a part of town that’s always busy with people making things. Here at Brass Accesories, the air usually smells like metal and polish. It’s a bit of a gritty job, and our hands are rarely clean by the end of the shift. We have these big heavy benches where we sit and work on the smaller pieces. The floor is concrete and it’s seen better days, with scratches and marks from moving heavy crates around. We’ve been in this building for years. It’s not a modern place with air conditioning or anything fancy. We just have a few big fans that move the hot air around in the summer. When the monsoon hits, the sound of rain on the roof is so loud we can’t even hear each other talk. We mostly deal with small fittings and things that people need for their houses or projects. It’s steady work. We don’t really do much advertising; people just seem to know we’re here in Taranagar. Sometimes a neighbor drops by for a chat or to borrow a tool. It feels more like a workshop than a business office. We just take the raw brass and turn it into whatever is on the order sheet that day. It’s basic, honest work and it keeps us busy from Monday to Saturday without fail.
