Ashok Kumar Moolchand

Down in Kishanpole Bazar, at the spot called Godho Ka Rasta, you’ll find us. Ashok Kumar Moolchand is the name on the papers, but most folks just know where we are. This part of the city is always crowded. There are smells of spices and old wood everywhere. Our shop is old, with narrow stairs and high ceilings. We’ve been here for generations, really. My father worked here, and his father too. We don’t change much because we don’t need to. The wooden counters are worn smooth from years of use. It gets very loud outside with all the rickshaws and people shouting, but inside it’s a bit quieter. We deal with all sorts of people every day. Some are looking for specific things, others are just passing through the bazar. We don’t have a website or anything like that. If you want to talk to us, you have to come down to Godho Ka Rasta. We drink a lot of tea while we work. The ledger books are stacked in the corner. Sometimes the electricity goes out for an hour or two, so we just light a candle and keep talking to the customers. It’s a traditional way of doing business. We don’t use big words or fancy talk. We just show the goods and tell the price. That’s how it’s always been in the old market and how it stays.
