Our shop is H-1, 619A, located in Narayan Vihar on Road No 6. Being in the VKI Area means we are surrounded by other workshops and the constant sound of industrial work. It’s a dusty part of town, but that’s where the business is. We spend a lot of our time moving steel around the shop floor. The space is a bit tight sometimes, especially when a new shipment comes in and we have to find a spot for everything. We don't have any polished showrooms or air-conditioned waiting rooms. It’s just the shop, the metal, and us. Most days involve a lot of measuring and cutting to get things exactly how someone needs them. The floor is concrete and has plenty of scratches from years of dragging heavy loads across it. We use a lot of chalk to mark things. It’s simple work, but it needs to be done right. Our neighbors on Road No 6 are all doing similar things, so there’s a bit of a community feel among the shop owners. We share news about the latest prices or complain about the heat. When the monsoon hits, we have to move everything away from the door so the rain doesn't get to the stock. It’s a lot of manual work, but we are used to it by now. We just keep the doors open and get through the list of tasks without too much fuss.
