Amar Bartan Bhandar

Amar Bartan Bhandar is located down in Ramganj Bazar, specifically at Dhabhai Ji Ka Khurra 2. If you walk through the market, you can usually hear the sound of metal clinking together long before you see the shop. We have been here for a good amount of time now. The shelves are mostly piled high with stainless steel pots, pressure cookers, and those large thalis people use for big family dinners. It is not a fancy place by any means. There is dust from the street sometimes and the aisles are a bit narrow because we try to fit in as many buckets and tiffins as possible. Most mornings start with moving the bigger tubs outside so people can see them while they walk past. It gets quite crowded in the afternoons when everyone is out shopping for their kitchens. We don’t have any air conditioning, just a couple of old fans that hum while we work. People from the neighborhood come in looking for a specific lid or a new frying pan when their old one finally gives out. We spend a lot of time just organizing the smaller spoons and forks because they always seem to get mixed up. It is a simple life here in the bazar. We just open up, sit on the stools, and wait for the next person to come in needing something for their stove. That is pretty much how the day goes for us.
