Sri Vallabha Granites

Down here in Nagole Village, things move at their own pace. We are located at number 137, and if you know the Uppal area, you know it can get pretty crowded. Our yard is where we keep all the slabs. It is mostly granite, stacked up high. You can hear the sounds of the neighborhood all day—kids playing nearby or the occasional cow wandering past. It is a bit different from the big shops in the city center. We keep the gates open so the breeze can get in, but mostly it just brings in the heat. Working with stone is heavy, honest work. We spend hours moving pieces so customers can see the colors at the bottom of the stack. Our hands are usually rough from the granite edges, and the floor is always covered in a fine layer of grit. When someone comes by from Nagole or somewhere else in Uppal, we just walk them through the rows. There is no big sales pitch. We just show what is available today. Sometimes we don't have exactly what a person wants, and we tell them that straight up. We would rather be honest than sell something that doesn't fit the job. It’s just how we do things here in the village. It is not a fancy life, but we like the people we meet and the work keeps us strong.
