Granite World

Our place, Granite World, is situated out near the Ring Road in Uppal. If you are heading towards Saraswathi Nagar, you will see our yard. It is a big open space because granite slabs take up a lot of room and they are incredibly heavy. We spend a lot of time outside, regardless of whether it is raining or the sun is beating down. You get used to the smell of wet stone and the sound of the cutters running. Most of the guys here have calloused hands from moving the pieces around all day. It is not the kind of job where you stay clean for very long. We have a small office on-site where we keep the ledgers and handle the phone calls, but the real work happens out where the stone is. We do not really go in for flashy signs or anything like that. The slabs speak for themselves, sitting there in the rows. It is a bit of a hike from the city center, but being on the Ring Road makes it easier for the big trucks to get in and out without getting stuck in the inner-city mess. We usually start early, before the heat gets too bad, and keep going until the light starts to fade. It is just honest work with heavy materials. People come by, pick out a piece they like for a counter or a floor, and we figure out how to get it to them.
