About Sri Seeta Rama Khadi Gramodyog Sangham – Textile in Hyderabad
Our place is at 17-1-383/A/9/2 in Reddy Colony, over in the Champapet area. We are a khadi gramodyog sangham, so we spend a lot of our time around hand-spun cloth and traditional village products. The building is usually full of the smell of raw cotton and sometimes the dyes we use. It is a bit of an old-fashioned environment, which is fine by us. We have shelves stacked high with bundles of fabric and other goods made by local hands. It’s not like a modern shopping mall; it is more of a community space where things are done the slow way. We spend a lot of time checking the quality of the weave and making sure everything is folded neatly. The light comes in through the front windows and hits all the different textures of the cloth. People come in looking for something authentic, and we just show them what we have on the shelves. Sometimes the floors get dusty from the cotton fibers floating around, so we are always sweeping. It’s a group effort here in Champapet, and we all know our roles. We don’t go for anything fancy, just the honest work of promoting khadi and helping village industries stay alive. It’s a quiet kind of work, but it feels right to be doing something that has been around for so long. We just take it one day at a time in Reddy Colony.
