The yard is located on H. I. T. Road in the Sealdanga area. It is a noisy place because there is always steel being moved around by hand or machine. We have piles of metal rods and heavy plates sitting all over the ground. It gets quite dusty, and when the rain comes, the yard turns into a bit of a muddy mess. We don't have a nice office to sit in. Instead, we have a small room by the gate where we keep the weight records and some basic tools. Most of our day is spent outside in the yard or under the shed. The workers have to wear heavy gloves because the steel is rough and can be sharp. We cut pieces to size when a customer asks for it, but mostly we just sell the stuff as it comes in. Ichapur is a very industrial area, so the noise of metal hitting metal is just something you hear all the time. We don't do any marketing or advertising. People who need steel for building things just know where our Sealdanga yard is. Sometimes the delivery trucks get stuck in the narrow parts of the road, and that causes a big headache for us. It is hard, dirty work and your hands are never really clean by the end of the shift. We just get on with it and keep the yard running every day.
