The office is located near the Jaja Bye Pass Chowk in Tanda, which is a busy intersection for anyone traveling through Hoshiarpur. We are right opposite the State Bank of India, so we see a lot of people coming and going from the bank all day long. It’s a good spot because the bypass is right there, making it easy for the taxis to pull out and get on the road quickly. Most of the time, the drivers are just hanging around the shade, waiting for the next call to come in. We don’t have a big waiting room or anything like that, just a simple place to handle the bookings and keep the keys. When the phone rings, it’s usually someone needing a ride to the station or maybe a family going to a wedding in another village. We have to keep track of who is where and which car is actually running right that day. The dust from the bypass can be a bit much sometimes, especially when the big trucks go flying past, but you get used to it after a few weeks. It’s a very straightforward life here, just managing the cars and talking to the passengers. We try to keep the vehicles clean, though the Punjab roads make that a bit of a losing battle sometimes. It’s just us doing our daily work in Tanda, keeping the wheels turning for whoever happens to call our number.
