Op Shukla Farmer Producer Company Limited

This whole thing runs out of Om Prakash Shukla’s place in Bhawanigarh, over in the Meghmaau area. It's basically a bunch of us farmers who decided to pool our resources. We spend a lot of time at the Shuklabhawanigarh house talking through what needs to be done for the next crop cycle. There’s no big staff here, just people who know how to work the dirt. Most of us grew up right here in this part of the country. We know the soil and we know how the water moves across the fields after a heavy rain. Being a producer company means we handle the selling and the buying together. It saves us a bit of trouble and a few rupees here and there. The office is really just a desk and some chairs in a room where we keep the ledgers. You’ll find mud on the floor most days because someone just came in from the fields. We don't put on any acts. If you come by, you’ll likely see us in our working clothes. Some days are long, especially during the sowing season. We have to keep track of everyone’s input and make sure the paperwork is right for the government. It’s a lot of coordination for a small group, but it works for us. Meghmaau is a quiet spot, and we like to keep our business straightforward and honest without any of that corporate talk you hear in the bigger towns or cities.
