Our place is over at plot 45 in the Kiadb Industrial Area. It’s near Shirwad Village in Karwar Taluk. We handle fruits, mostly for exporting them out. It’s a lot of sorting and packing. The air usually smells like whatever is in season, which is nice. Ven Fresh Fruite Exports Pvt. Ltd. is where we spend our long hours. We get crates arriving early in the morning from the local growers. Then we have to check everything. If a fruit is bruised, it stays here. Only the good stuff goes into the export boxes. The industrial area is a bit out of the way, but it works for the trucks. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to scramble, but that’s just how it goes here. We aren't a big corporate team with suits. We wear boots and aprons. Most of the staff comes from the nearby villages like Shirwad. We know each other well. It’s a fast-paced environment when the harvest is in. We don't have much time for fancy talk. We just want to make sure the fruit gets to where it’s going without spoiling. The office is just a small corner with a desk and some old chairs. We prefer being out on the floor where the action is. It’s simple work but it keeps us on our toes every single day of the week. We just keep the boxes moving and stay busy.
