You can find L B S Inter College over on Jalesar Road in the Manikpur area of Hathras. It’s a typical inter college for this part of Uttar Pradesh. The school is right there by the side of the road, so it gets a fair bit of the traffic noise and dust throughout the day. We have students coming in from the town and the surrounding rural areas. They usually arrive on bicycles or walk if they live close enough in Manikpur. The school itself is a set of brick buildings with a large open ground in the middle. We use that ground for morning assemblies and for the kids to run around during their lunch break. The classrooms are very basic, with wooden benches that have been used for years and blackboards that are always a bit grey. We don't have a lot of modern technology or gadgets here. It's more about the teachers standing at the front and the students taking notes in their copies. It’s a very practical, no-nonsense kind of place for learning. We focus on the core subjects and try to help the students get through their intermediate years so they can find a job or move on to more studies. The staff room is a busy place where we sit and talk while we have our tea. There’s nothing corporate about how we run things.
