Devi Durga Gems & Jwells

If you are walking down through Lala Bazar and look for the office of Gupta Advocate, you will find us right nearby. Devi Durga Gems & Jwells has been situated in this particular part of town for quite a long time now. The street outside is almost always loud with people shouting and scooters zooming back and forth. Inside the shop, things are a little bit quieter, though the bell on the front door rings pretty much constantly throughout the day. We spend most of our time looking at various stones and fixing up old necklaces that people bring in for repair. Sometimes the overhead lights flicker when the neighbor turns on their heavy equipment, but we are all used to it by now. We do not have a big, fancy showroom with velvet on every surface. It is mostly just glass display cases and some sturdy wooden stools for customers to sit on. My uncle used to be the one running the place, and now I am here most days of the week. We drink a lot of tea while we work through the afternoon. Keeping track of the inventory can be a real headache at the end of the month, especially with the tiny beads. People from the neighborhood often stop by just to have a chat, even if they aren't looking to buy anything that day. We really like the community feel here in Lala Bazar. It is a bit cramped, but it is home.
