Cute Salons

Cute Salons is tucked away in the Jain Mandir Santar area of Morar in Gwalior. Despite the name, it is a very straightforward and no-nonsense shop. We do not have any decorations or fancy posters on the walls. It is a small space with just enough room for a few people to wait their turn. Being near the Jain Mandir means it is a bit quieter than the main roads, which I personally like. The mornings are very peaceful until the other shops in the santar start opening up. I open the metal shutters early every day. The floor is made of grey stone and stays quite cool even when it is very hot outside. We have two main chairs. One of them has a lever that is a bit sticky, so you have to give it a good kick to make it move. I have worked in Morar for a long time and I know most of the families who live in these streets. We get the fathers, then their sons, and eventually their grandsons come in too. It is a nice cycle to see. We do not use any expensive machines here. Just some good scissors and a steady hand. I keep a bowl of water on the counter to dip the combs in while I work. The light inside is not the best, so I usually keep the door wide open.
