Assam Ply & Steel

Down on Gurudwara Road in the New Market area of Jwala Pur, things stay pretty busy from early morning until late evening. We are right in the thick of it at Assam Ply & Steel. You can usually smell the fresh wood and hear the clanking of metal if you walk by our front entrance. The shop is filled with stacks of boards and different steel parts that we keep organized as much as we can. It isn't always perfectly tidy, but we know where everything is. Jwala Pur is a crowded place, and New Market is even more so. We spend a lot of our time loading and unloading trucks that pull up right in front of the shop. Sometimes the traffic on Gurudwara Road makes it difficult to get work done, but we manage to get things moved eventually. We aren't corporate people with suits; we are usually in work clothes and have a bit of dirt on our hands. That is just the nature of working with ply and steel every day. When someone comes in looking for something specific, we go find it in the back. There is no complicated computer system here, just a lot of heavy lifting and checking the inventory lists by hand. We've known some of the other shop owners on this road for many years. It's a community of sorts. We just keep the doors open and do our part every day. It’s hard work, but it keeps us going. We don’t need anything flashy to show what we do.
