Ss Marble & Tiles

Ss Marble & Tiles is tucked away in Ward No. 2, in the village of Bhirauti. We are quite close to the railway station, so you can always hear the trains pulling in and out throughout the day. It’s a bit of a walk from the main Sohna post office, but people around here know where we are. The shop is filled with stacks of tiles and marble slabs that we’ve moved around so many times we know every crack and pattern on them. It’s not a polished showroom like you see in the big cities. We just have the samples laid out on the floor and leaning against the walls. The air always smells a bit like damp stone and cold cement. Most of the time, it’s just us and the guys who help with the loading. We spend a lot of time sweeping the floor because the mud from the village roads always finds its way inside. When the trains go by, the whole place vibrates a little bit, but we don't even notice it anymore. We get people coming in from all over Sohna, mostly looking for something simple for their floors or bathrooms. We don't do any big talking; we just show them what we have in the back and tell them the price. It’s a quiet life for the most part, except for the heavy lifting and the occasional busy Saturday when everyone decides to fix their house at the same time and we have to stay late to finish up.
